Santiago Peñate (Gran Canaria, 1986), is one of the intra-entrepreneurs who participated in the first edition of the Despega program, an intra-entrepreneurship initiative of Redeia with the support of Elewit. Thanks to the support of the program, Santiago is developing his project called Advanced Grid Insights.

Santiago is an industrial engineer from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and has an extensive education, including higher education in the electricity sector and in the field of economics. In the professional field, before joining Red Eléctrica in 2019, Peñate developed his career for more than 10 years exercising the functions of electrical and energy consulting SCADA systems and business.

Advanced Grid InsIghts

Advanced Grid Insights is a project focused on cutting-edge electrical and energy software designed to facilitate the energy transition. It allows the simplification of electrical studies and applying cutting-edge technology to obtain more accurate conclusions. The idea arose from the shortcomings observed in the industry software: it was necessary to improve the automation and efficiency skills for the simulation of organizations.

In order to achieve this goal, they started developing GridCal (short for Grid Calculator) as an open source project, which later the Red Eléctrica team in which Santiago participated applied the same idea to the Newton program (a program focused on massive calculations and cloud data).

The main features of this technology are speed, adaptability and ease of use, in addition to being a multiplatform and multiparadigm tool designed to "talk" to each other and to third-party programs.

This technology has already been tested in Red Eléctrica and other electric utilities, universities and research centers, including Shell, NTNU, Rensselaer polytechnic institute, University of the Basque Country, Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
